At Heritage Communities, we continue to take proactive steps to minimize the threat of potential exposure of COVID-19 to our residents. As the CDC and other governing bodies in our industry issue new recommendations, home office leadership meets regularly with Executive Directors to make decisions for our communities that align with updated information. Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to increase safety measures and protocols by putting the following steps in place.

- All communities will be adhering to "social distancing" guidelines of limiting group activities to 10 people or less and maintaining at least six feet of distance between two or more people.

- For social distancing purposes, assisted living and independent living residents will no longer be served meals in our main dining room.

- Instead of meals in the dining room, we will take meal orders throughout the day, and deliver to resident rooms.

- For our memory support residents, we will be seating in shifts as much as possible, while maintaining six feet of separation.

It is important to understand that none of our communities are under a quarantine, and residents do not need to isolate themselves in their apartment. However, we are being extra cautious when it comes to group interaction. We realize the importance of providing social opportunities, and the impact that can have on a resident's wellbeing. Leadership and life enrichment teams are committed to identifying unique approaches for socialization and activities given COVID-19 restrictions. Families are encouraged to reach out to the Executive Director of their community, if they are interested in coordinating communication with loved ones through technology such as FaceTime or Skype. Our teams would be happy to help coordinate that!

This additional COVID-19 update pertains to the following locations:

  • Orchard Pointe at Arrowhead (Glendale, AZ)
  • Orchard Pointe at Surprise (Surprise, AZ)
  • Orchard Pointe at Terrazza (Peoria, AZ)

New regulatory guidelines from the Arizona Department of Health Services were released this week. These guidelines were developed on an emergency basis due to the pandemic, and Orchard Pointe locations have put steps in place to comply with the following recommendations. Starting March 19, 2020:

- Every visitor and associate who enters Orchard Pointe communities will have their temperature taken to ensure there is no sign of fever. As a reminder, we are still limiting visitors to only those essential to resident care or building operations.

- Any visitor or associate with a temperature of 100.3 will not be allowed to stay at the community and asked to return at a later date.

- We will also be monitoring our residents' health by checking temperatures and oxygen saturation daily. If a fever is present, we will check the resident's temperature multiple times throughout the day. If fever persists, or continues to climb, we will require the resident to seek medical consultation within 24 hours.

Thank you for understanding the reason behind all of these recent changes is truly to protect our residents, who are most vulnerable to COVID-19. We will continue to monitor the situation daily and update with any changes.
