New Montessori programming assists residents with Alzheimer’s Disease


SURPRISE – About 5 million Americans live with Alzheimer’s Disease every day. November’s Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month aims to educate the public and help those who struggle with this deadly disease. In a related effort, Orchard Pointe Assisted Living and Memory Support, 15048 W. Young St., has unveiled and implemented its exclusive program, called Portraits, for their residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Portraits was based on the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori. While Dr. Montessori was most known for her work with children and education, Orchard Pointe took her philosophies and principals, and applied them to seniors living with dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. By taking the resident’s ability, desire and skills into account, custom programming is created for each person.  Read more.
