Farhan Khan
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Communities, Farhan’s vision looks beyond the present of both the company and our industry. By keeping a steady pulse on the senior living sector, his time is spent in the research and development of new products and services. He has a passion for architecture and plays an integral role in the design and construction process of each new Heritage community.
A graduate of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Farhan holds a bachelor’s degree in Architecture and is honored to help leave a positive mark on the senior living industry. He surrounds himself with a team of dedicated, hardworking, fun-loving people, making each day a joy to come to work, and he knows that every decision is thoughtfully made with our residents and their families in mind.
Farhan is involved with the Omaha Symphony and Omaha Community Foundation. He enjoys playing golf, skiing, traveling and spending time with his wife and two children.
Nate Underwood
Founder and President
Founder and President of Heritage Communities, Nate oversees financial operations, new developments, human capital and real estate. Playing a key role in the vision of our organization, Nate works to ensure all new developments are consistent with our company culture, core values and strategy. He thrives on working in a mission-based business and loves the challenge of making sure our communities are great places to work and live. He approaches all tasks in a positive and thoughtful way and believes in constant growth and improvement.
Nate graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with a teaching degree and began his career teaching middle school in the Millard Public Schools. He is currently serving his third year as the learning chair on the Entrepreneurs’ Organization Nebraska board, drawing upon his experience in education to help Nebraska businesses like his own learn, grow and improve.
Much of Nate’s free time is devoted to his wife and their three children: Luke, Anna and Landon.

Amy Birkel
Chief Operating Officer
Watch Amy – 45 Seconds on Portraits Program
As Chief Operating Officer, Amy oversees the operation and management of our 13 communities, meeting the needs of both associates and residents. She leads thoughtful, challenging discussions that generate innovative ideas and initiatives, then helps implement the ideas across the company. Amy’s core focuses are the integration of projects and team members, strategy and prioritization.
Amy worked in skilled care throughout high school and college and, while attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney, began working for an Assisted Living company as an Assistant Director. Upon graduating from UNK with a Bachelor of Science degree in Gerontology/Business Administration, she quickly moved up the company’s ranks and was promoted to manage her own Assisted Living community. With more than 20 years of experience in the field, Amy joined Heritage in 2013 and is an instrumental member of our team.
She enjoys spending time with her family and volunteering in a variety of activities. Amy is very active in her church and loves biking, running and traveling.

Genelle Girthoffer
Vice President of Human Resources
Heritage Communities welcomed Genelle Girthoffer to the leadership team in 2021 as Vice President of Human Resources. Genelle is responsible for the strategic development and oversight of all Human Resources operations for Heritage Communities, leading the development, implementation and management of programs that attract, motivate, develop and retain associates. With more than 20 years of experience as a human resources professional, Genelle has demonstrated the ability to lead and motivate teams to new levels of success. Having worked in a variety of industries, she brings a diverse background including hands-on experience in benefits, payroll, training, development, coaching, and customer satisfaction.
Genelle earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of NebraskaOmaha and holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification. During her career, she has worked in the human services, construction and financial services industries.
An Omaha native, Genelle enjoys running, reading, and spending time with her husband, Zach, and their two boys.

Lori Meisgeier
Director of Accounting and Finance
As the Director of Accounting and Finance, Lori is responsible for oversight of all day-to-day accounting functions for Heritage Communities. Her role includes budgeting, analyzing financial information and monitoring that reporting is in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Lori helps guide financial decisions through accurate and timely analyses, ensuring the best use of funds for residents and investors.
Lori joined Heritage Communities in 2011 in a part-time role and has moved her way up in the accounting department since then. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Wayne State College. Lori worked in various industries in Nebraska, Massachusetts and Kansas prior to joining Heritage.
Lori and her husband, Nathan, have three boys and stay busy with a variety of youth activities. Lori is a leader for Boy Scout Troop 91 in Elkhorn and an Elkhorn South activities booster, and volunteers for other school and church positions.
Jerry Pape
Chief Financial Officer
For over twenty five years, Jerry has worked as a senior executive successfully providing strategic, operational and financial leadership to companies of various industries. Jerry enjoys being a member of a team that makes team building a priority. He strives to reinforce a culture of compassion, mutual respect and integrity. Jerry and his lovely wife, Anne, have three kids: Jack, Ben, and Claire. Jerry grew up in Omaha and attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
Stephen Ciesielski
Chief Financial Officer
With over 25 years of senior leadership experience in corporate finance and accounting, Stephen brings a wealth of knowledge to our team. His diverse background includes roles such as CFO of a beer distribution company and Director of Finance for a wine and spirits distributor. He holds undergraduate degrees in Accounting and Economics from Pittsburg State University and executive education certificates from the Wharton School of Business and Kellogg School of Management.
Stephen’s professional achievements include earning the Certified Treasury Professional designation, but his passion for senior living goes beyond the numbers. Inspired by the positive impact he’s witnessed firsthand on his parents’ quality of life, Stephen is honored to contribute to our mission of enhancing the lives of our residents.
Outside of work, Stephen cherishes time with his wife Kirstie and their three daughters. An avid cook, he loves experimenting with new recipes. Their family enjoys traveling to Nashville, attending NHL games, and vacationing in Vero Beach, FL. Stephen’s loyalty lies with the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Blackhawks, and Kansas City Chiefs.
Rhonda Thiel
Regional Director of Operations
Rhonda supports the sales process, resident experience and overall efficiencies of our Arizona (Orchard Pointe) communities. With over 15 years of experience working in health care, Rhonda is an innovative and entrepreneurial leader who inspires, coaches and supports her teams. Rhonda has worked in every facet of senior living, starting in college when she worked in Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing as well as in the hospital setting. Rhonda has a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Administration and Business from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Rhonda is motivated by her family, who have also dedicated their lives to the health care industry. Alongside her supportive husband of 20 years, Rhonda is a proud mom of two boys and two adopted girls.
Crystal Douglas
Regional Director of Operations
Crystal is responsible for providing support and guidance to our communities in the Omaha metro and surrounding areas. For the past sixteen years, Crystal has worked in Senior Living, first as a Director of Sales , then as an Executive Director. Six of those years have been with Heritage Communities.
She takes pride in inspiring and coaching team members to grow and love what they do each day. Crystal had a personal experience with a close family member living in a retirement setting and knew this was the career for her. She wants every resident that we care for the be shown the same love and respect her family received. Crystal has a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Administration from Bellevue University.
She enjoys spending time with her husband, Nic, and their two children, Lexi and Bryson, especially if they are on the golf course or cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs!!

Jane Streit
Regional Director of Operations

Jane Streit is the Regional Director of Operations for Central Nebraska, leading operations for Heritage’s communities throughout the region.
Jane has been leading and working in Nebraska and low’s senior living communities for over 20 years. Why senior living? She says, “The wisdom gained from our residents is immense and love mentonng, coaching, and developing others. Just knowing I have touched their lives and made even the slightest difference in their day warms my heart”
Jane is a Wayne State College graduate – Go Wildcats! Jane and Peter enjoy visiting thier three children in college, going to concerts, traveling and are involved with their church
Jessica Hellwege
Vice President Home Based Services
Jessica has worked in the health care arena for over 12 years with a focus in hospice, home care and senior living. She has served in a consultant capacity for several organizations through restructure and growth. Jessica is passionate about patient and resident care and spends much of her free time advocating for better health care options for seniors locally and nationally. Outside of her career, she enjoys lake life with her husband and two standard poodles, and is an Air Force mom. She enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Jennifer Hellbusch, RN
Director of Heritage Healthcare Services
As Director of Heritage Health Care, Jennifer oversees company-wide care initiatives, guiding clinical practices and protocols and directives related to the health and safety of our residents. Jennifer started her career in health care over 20 years ago as an aide at a long-term care facility. She completed her degree at St. Luke’s College in Sioux City, Iowa, and became an RN in 2009. She continued her focus in long-term care and skilled nursing facilities, advancing to roles including Wound Nurse, Infection Control Specialist, Assistant Director, Director of Nursing, and Regional Clinical Educator. Jennifer’s passion is caring for our aging population and this passion seems to grow deeper with every new year and challenge. She derives satisfaction from improving the lives of the residents through direct interaction, mentorship and development of the team that cares for them.
Donna Aman
Senior Director of Marketing and Communications
Donna brings over 20 years of strategic marketing and communications experience across consumer, health care, nonprofit, and business-to-business settings. She finds motivation in how her efforts can make someone’s life better. She most enjoys telling Heritage’s story through the eyes of our residents and associates. An Iowa native, she holds a Chemical Engineering degree from Iowa State University and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Iowa. You can find Donna at her son’s sporting events, preparing new recipes she’s discovered, or collecting flowers for her growing garden. She and her husband are active volunteers with their church and serve as SOS Marriage Care, Inc. board members.
Erin Albers
Vice President of Brand Strategy
Erin attended Creighton University for undergrad and received a certificate of Corporate Social Responsibility from CU Boulder. She was a member of the Leadership Omaha Class of 38 and recognized as a 40 Under 40 professional.
Outside of work, Erin loves traveling with her husband, Steve and kids, Luke and Piper. She also loves walking her dogs, Bella and Hazel, around the lake.
Lacy Jungman
Vice President of Growth & Development
As the Vice President of Growth & Development at Heritage Communities, Lacy is responsible for achieving company-wide revenue goals, managing sales efforts, and leading growth initiatives. Lacy has over 17 years of experience in the senior living industry, with the majority of that time spent managing sales and marketing operations. Recognizing no two people are the same, individualization is an important leadership theme to Lacy, which can be seen as she works alongside associates, residents, potential residents and their families.
Lacy started her career with seniors by volunteering at a local nursing facility where she called bingo, painted nails and spent time getting to know residents. Her passion for people and the industry took off from there, and she hasn’t looked back! Known for loving a good brainstorm session, Lacy excels in crafting unique solutions that drive results across the entire organization through innovation and collaboration.
