Our Beginning
When we opened our first senior living community in Omaha, Nebraska, in 2002, our goal was to create retirement living options in the Midwest that reflected what our communities, our residents, and their family members told us they really wanted.
We met with community members, leaders, seniors, and family members of seniors, and we conducted dozens of focus groups. We wanted data. We wanted input. We wanted insight.
These early partners told us that while there were many communities to consider, with a lot to offer, they didn’t feel that anyone asked them this:
“What do you really want in your retirement life?”
Our Tagline
Although there were and continue to be a growing number of options for senior living in the midwest, we believed that we could differentiate ourselves by doing things better.
We listened better. We researched better. We planned better. We designed better.
Our tagline “Living Better” was born.
As we expanded our view of what Heritage Communities could be, we defined our Mission Statement.

Twenty Years and Counting
2022 marks our twentieth year in business and the opening of our 15th Heritage Community. We operate communities in Nebraska, Iowa, Arizona, and Texas. Our communities offer a mix of Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Respite Care.

We offer seniors in Nebraska, Texas, Arizona, and Iowa retirement communities that offer what they told us they want. An enjoyable, stimulating, independent, and carefree lifestyle – and access to additional services should they ever be needed.
Assisted Living
Personal care with the right touch.
Assisted Living at Heritage Communities provides the comforts of a private or semi-private apartment with a supportive lifestyle that welcomes new residents, fosters friendships, and encourages family support.
Our Assisted Living services guarantee 24-hour access to highly-trained caregivers who provide assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including (but not limited to) bathing, dressing, and medication administration.
When You Need Just a Bit More Help
In order to better serve our Assisted Living residents who need a little more care – but who do not require Memory Care – Heritage Communities has introduced our exclusive Snapshots program.
Snapshots is a program of additional support and care for residents with mild cognitive impairments. Snapshots ensures that residents have the opportunity to enjoy leisure activities and social engagements that they may have not enjoyed for some time.
Snapshots offers thoughtfully designed activities in small groups or one-on-one. We strive to help these residents enjoy fun, social events, while larger group activities may create frustration and distraction.
Memory Care at Heritage Communities
Innovative. Exclusive. Customized.
At Heritage Communities, we go beyond what is expected for our Memory Care residents. Our dedicated caregivers assist with activities of daily living and provide thoughtful one-on-one care and guidance to those with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. But we do more – when we welcome new Memory Care residents, we create a customized and detailed Wellness and Care Plan. The care plan respects each resident’s needs, preferences, likes and dislikes.
Our services and our unique care program are certified and always adhere to the strict guidelines of the Alzheimer’s Association of America ®.
We have distinguished our Memory Care offerings even further with our exclusive wellness program called Portraits. Portraits features multisensory activities based on the philosophies of Dr. Maria Montessori. Individualized activities help each resident to remain as independent as possible and enjoy more meaningful activities and events.
With the combination of highly qualified caregivers, a detailed Care and Wellness Plan, and our Portraits program, we help each Memory Care resident to experience more successful moments and enjoy fewer frustrations each day.
Respite Care at Heritage Communities
Welcome relief when needed.
Select Heritage Communities offer Respite Care services for short-term stays of a few days or several weeks.
Short-term Respite Care can provide temporary relief to family members or caregivers who provide care for a lovedone at home. After all, caregivers and family members need a break too.
Respite Care can also provide short-term, round-the-clock residential care to seniors who are being discharged from either a hospital or from in-patient rehabilitation after a surgery.
OnCare Home Health and Hospice Care
We’ll come to you.
OnCare Home Health and Hospice is a sister organization that provides home health and hospice care. They are the preferred provider of these services for our communities in the regions they serve. They deliver the highest quality home care services in the convenience and comfort of one’s own home.
We’re dedicated to improving the quality of life for seniors – and their families – and addressing the specific healthcare needs they have.
We offer fully accredited home health care in the Omaha area, including:
- Skilled Nursing Care
- Rehabilitation services
- Hospice Care
- Wellness assessments
