Weighing the Senior Living Care Options

Weighing the Senior Living Care Options

As the years pass, it’s natural to contemplate what would happen should you or a loved one need a little help at some time in the future. By no means does that mean you should think of yourself as “old”—in fact, with so many senior living care options, you can put together a lifestyle that brings new meaning and new vitality to your life or the lives of those you love.

At Heritage Communities, we can help connect you to the lifestyle that is right for you. Here’s a look at some options.

Senior living care options away from home

Independent living

Independent living is designed specifically for active adults who want to enjoy life, free of the burdens of home ownership, daily chores and responsibilities. It is a lifestyle choice for older adults who require little daily assistance. Independent living can open up a larger world to you in retirement than you would ordinarily find at home, such as lifelong learning, wellness programs, social events, group experiences, and more.

Assisted living

Assisted living provides housing, personalized care and support with activities of daily living to help you remain independent and enjoy an engaging, purposeful life. Assisted living residents enjoy multiple opportunities to engage with others through activities, programs, outings, classes, entertainment, exercise and other group events. It also provides the peace of mind that comes from knowing the professional staff are on hand to monitor the health of residents and help spot any changes that require attention.

Memory care

Memory care is specifically designed to nurture and support those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia with 24-hour supervision, structured activities and a secure, calming environment that’s easy to navigate. For a person with dementia, a daily routine is good medicine. Being in a familiar place with reassuring guidance and companionship can make a world of difference.

Skilled nursing

Skilled nursing is the right choice for older adults who require 24-hour supervised care with a licensed physician or nurse, as well as physical, speech and occupational therapists onsite. This can include personal care, assistance with the activities of daily living, wound care, intravenous medications, health care education, special dietary preparations, and short- and long-term rehabilitation. Seniors receiving short-term skilled nursing care may be recovering from surgery, hospitalization and/or illness and need rehabilitation or more time before returning home.

Senior care options at home

Home health care

Home health care is for a person who might just need assistance with a few tasks, such as meal preparation, paying bills, or getting to the doctor. Or, you could opt to employ a visiting nurse daily or weekly to check blood pressure and assist with medications, or occupational, physical and/ or speech therapy.

Adult day care

Adult day care offers a safe environment and typically provides care during normal business hours, five days a week with services that may include meals and snacks, health monitoring, medication assistance, fitness and educational programs and social activities. Not only does this option provide healthy and safe socialization, but it also gives caregivers an opportunity to work, tend to family needs, or simply take a much-needed break from the demands of caregiving.

At Heritage Communities, we are here to create the senior living experience you want.

We know there are many senior living care options to consider. Our goal is to connect you to the community and the lifestyle that matches your tastes and needs. For us, redefining living better is what it’s all about.

Here’s just a few highlights of choosing a Heritage community for you, or your loved one:

  • At Heritage Communities, we believe Independent Living really should bring more to your life. More fun. More freedom. More flexibility. More choices. We offer seniors in Nebraska, Texas, Arizona, and Iowa retirement communities that offer what they told us they want. An enjoyable, stimulating, independent, and carefree lifestyle – and access to additional services should they ever be needed.
  • Our Assisted Living communities offer just the right amount of assistance each residents needs to enjoy the perks of living in a social community with additional help just a call away. Our Snapshots program provides additional support and care for assisted living residents who have mild cognitive impairments. Through thoughtfully designed activities in small groups or one-on-one, we strive to help these residents enjoy fun, social events, when larger group activities can create frustration and distraction.
  • Our exclusive memory care program, Portraits, offers our residents multisensory activities based on the philosophies of Dr. Maria Montessori. Individualized activities help each resident to remain as independent as possible and enjoy more meaningful activities and events. With the combination of highly qualified caregivers, a detailed Care and Wellness Plan, and our Portraits program, we help each Memory Care resident to experience more successful moments and enjoy fewer frustrations each day.

Consider your senior living care options and decide what best meets the needs of you and your family. And remember, we are here to help guide you.
