Senior living communities today offer a range of senior living care options, and it’s important to have a good understanding of each so you can make a good decision of what works best for you, or for a loved one. Your need might be immediate, or you might be just beginning your research into what senior living can offer you. Either way, we at Heritage Communities want to help you make the choice that feels like home.

Planning for Today and Tomorrow: Senior living care options.

You might be living independently, with no need of daily assistance, and simply want more freedom and flexibility in your life. Or, you would appreciate the company of others. Perhaps you have a loved one showing the signs of cognitive decline and aren’t sure which care options are available. Whatever your situation, take some time to consider which care options will work best for your situation as you consider senior living communities.

Independent Living

What is independent living? This is a lifestyle for people who are ready to trade the responsibilities of home upkeep for a carefree lifestyle offering stimulation, companionship, entertainment and discovery. Residences can be luxury apartments, condos or townhomes, and some communities are gated.

Perks often include resort-style amenities, inviting outdoor spaces, a fitness center, movie theater, library, salon and barber shop and dining room. Services such as housekeeping and transportation are provided. Pets are usually welcome. At Heritage Communities, you can enjoy the comfort and privacy of your own apartment with a bustling independent living community all around you.

Assisted Living

What is assisted living? Among senior living care options, this one can be ideal for the individual who still wants to live as independently as possible, but could use an occasional helping hand. Trained caregivers are available to assist with bathing, dressing, grooming and medication management. Otherwise, residents are free to come and go as they choose, enjoying access to a range of community amenities and services, as well as exceptional dining.

Assisted living is also a great choice for someone who might simply be tired of living on their own and would appreciate the company of others, as well as the reassurance that should they ever need assistance, it’s there 24/7. Peace of mind is a major perk of senior living communities.

Memory Care

What is memory care? For those living with Alzheimer’s disease, or other form of dementia, memory care in today’s senior living communities can be an excellent option for many reasons. A memory care neighborhood is designed specifically for a resident’s safety and comfort, reducing anxiety and the likelihood of wandering. Caregivers work closely with residents to forge close bonds and value each resident as an individual with their own needs. In this stimulating and supportive environment, each person can be guided in experiencing more successful moments throughout the day.

Respite Care

What is respite care? Among the available senior living care options, respite care offers family caregivers temporary relief from the demands of caregiving. It is usually for those individuals requiring assistance with the activities of daily living, memory support or skilled nursing care for a short term basis, or recurring weekly or monthly basis.

Short-term respite care is also helpful for those coming out of rehab after a surgery, when they may not be ready for the responsibilities of living at home. Personalized activities are based on individual interests to keep each resident engaged. During your loved one’s stay in a Heritage community, they’ll experience all the perks of a full-time community resident.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs)

What is a CCRC? A continuing care retirement community is a senior living community that offers a broad spectrum of housing and healthcare—ranging from independent living to skilled nursing care—usually on one campus. For most seniors, this means the ability to remain on campus even as their needs change, with guaranteed access to a higher level of care.
