Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Communities, Farhan's vision looks beyond the present of both the company and our industry. By keeping a steady pulse on the senior living sector, his time is spent in research and development of new products and services.  He has a passion for architecture, and plays an integral part of the design and construction process of each new Heritage community. 

A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Farhan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture and is honored to help leave a positive mark on the senior living industry. He surrounds himself with a team of dedicated, hardworking, fun-loving people, making each day a joy to come to work, and knows that every decision is thoughtfully made with our residents and their families in mind.

Farhan is involved with the Omaha Symphony and enjoys playing golf, skiing, traveling and spending time with his wife and two children.

Nate Underwood

Founder and President

Co-founder and President of Heritage Communities, Nate oversees financial operations, new developments, human capital and real estate. Playing a key role in the vision of our organization, Nate works to ensure all new developments are consistent with our company culture, core values and strategy.  He thrives working in a mission-based business and loves the challenge of making sure our communities are great places to work and live. He approaches all tasks in a positive and thoughtful way and believes in constant growth and improvement.

Nate graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a teaching degree and began his career teaching middle school in the Millard Public Schools. He is currently serving his third year as the learning chair on the Entrepreneurs’ Organization Nebraska board, drawing upon his experience in education to help Nebraska businesses like his own learn, grow and improve.
Much of Nate’s free time is devoted to his wife and their three children, Luke, Anna and Landon.

    Amy Birkel

    Vice President

    As Vice President, Amy oversees the operation and management of our 12 communities, meeting the needs of both associates and residents.  She leads thoughtful, challenging discussions that generate innovative ideas and initiatives, then helps implement the ideas across the company.  Amy's core focuses are integration of projects and team members, strategy and prioritization.

    Amy worked in skilled care throughout high school and college and, while attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney, began working for an Assisted Living company as an Assistant Director. Upon graduating from UNK with a BS in Gerontology/Business Administration, she quickly moved up the company’s ranks and was promoted to manage her own Assisted Living community. With more than 20 years of experience in the field, Amy joined Heritage in 2013 and is an instrumental member of our team.


    She and her husband enjoy spending time with their three daughters, Malerie, Gabriella and Kinley, and volunteering with their many activities. Amy is very active in her church and loves biking, running and traveling.

Mary Moser

Director of Operations

As Director of Operations, Mary provides leadership, oversight and support within each Heritage community. This includes assisting with all aspects of daily operations as well as working collaboratively with our communities’ executive directors to promote our core values and ensure resident and staff satisfaction.

Her passion for helping seniors began in high school while working as a dietary aide in a nursing home. After attending MCC School of Nursing, Mary returned to work at the same nursing home as a nurse. She later transitioned into home health care as a nurse manager and was eventually promoted to Vice President of Operations. In 2009, Mary changed gears to become Divisional Director of Operations with an assisted living company. She joined Heritage Communities in 2011.

Mary and her husband enjoy keeping up with the activities of their six grandchildren, being involved with their church and their yearly trip to Mexico.

Lisa Stallmann

Director of Accounting and Human Resources

Watch Lisa – 45 Seconds on Careers

As Director of Accounting and Human Resources, Lisa oversees finances for all Heritage communities, including annual budgeting and price analysis. She also establishes policies and procedures for our associates and is charged with hiring and recruiting.

A graduate of Briar Cliff University, Lisa holds two Bachelor’s Degrees, one in Accounting and one in Business Administration. This Iowa native enjoys using her analytical side to crunch numbers and her creative side to brainstorm new ideas for bettering our work culture. She knows that if our associates are happy, our residents feel it, too, and enriching the lives of others is exactly why she chose this industry.

Lisa and her husband have three children, Landon, Mckenna and Kade, and spend many hours each week shuttling them to and from soccer practice and games. She loves Iowa Hawkeye football, traveling and writing—she’s published five books, including an international best seller.

Lacy Jungman

Director of Sales and Marketing

Lacy joined Heritage Communities in 2011 with sales, marketing and public relations experience as well as a degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Promoted to Director of Sales and Marketing in 2014, she is charged with leading, training and supporting our team of Senior Living Counselors. She also ensures everything we do and say is consistent—from our amenities to our customer service to our marketing—exuding compassion, trust, respect and fun.

Her work with seniors began during college when she was challenged by her mentor to serve others in a selfless way. Lacy began volunteering in a nursing home, calling bingo and spending individual time with residents. Her favorite part of her current job is witnessing residents who were unable to live independently at home suddenly blossom and thrive at our communities. She is honored to help support families through the decision-making process, acting as a resource, a guide and a friend.

With four little boys at home—Barron, Roderic, Ledger and Mack—Lacy and her husband keep plenty busy. She also enjoys running, public speaking and playing the piano.
