We know that memory loss affects our residents differently, and we strive to help them feel like themselves in every way possible.
Based on the philosophies and principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, our Portraits Program is centered on enhancing our residents’ abilities—what they can do instead of what they can’t. Our goal is to support the cognitive loss many of our Memory Support residents face and create individualized programming that adds purpose and meaning to their lives.
Each week, our team gathers to review items, photos and stories collected from residents’ families, giving us insight into our residents’ pasts. Where are they from? What did they do? What brings them joy? Who did they love? Our team members then share their own observations about each resident’s needs, skills and abilities—what they notice as they work with the resident, what challenges the resident faces and what responsive behaviors are occurring and why.
By reviewing and analyzing the collected information as well as their own observations, the team is able to develop individualized programs, giving each resident roles and routines. The team extends this information to the rest of the staff, invites the resident to participate and implements necessary environmental support. Progress is evaluated regularly in order to monitor the benefits and results.
Heritage Memory Support wings are cozy, secured environments tailored to those with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia that include private suites and comfortable common areas. Daily routines of bathing, dressing, grooming, eating and managing medications are customized per each resident’s needs as are a wide range of memory support activities, such as games, music and crafts. Our caregivers understand and value each resident as an individual with different needs and provide cueing and reminders based on those needs.
Each of our Memory Support communities offers unique programming centered on enhancing our residents’ abilities—what they can do instead of what they can’t. We know that memory loss affects each resident differently, and we are committed to helping them feel like themselves in any way possible. When you choose a Heritage Memory Support community, you receive more than exceptional quality of support for your loved one, you receive peace of mind for yourself and your family.
